“The child has a hundred languages
a hundred hands
a hundred thoughts
a hundred ways of thinking,
of playing, of speaking.”
_Loris Malaguzzi_
Children are born with an inherent curiosity, a thirst for learning, and a desire to explore. When they are free to experience the world in their own way, they develop comprehensively physically, intellectually, and spiritually.
Imagine the joy children feel when they cultivate a small garden with their hands, or the excitement after creating unique art pieces. The freedom to do what they love is the key to unlocking creativity, helping them become confident, independent, and adept at problem-solving.
However, “freedom” does not mean “disorganization” or “neglect.” As parents and educators, we need to accompany children on this journey by:
- Establishing a safe and age-appropriate environment.
- Setting clear and consistent rules.
- Encouraging independence and responsibility for their actions.
- Providing trust and encouragement.
- Observing and listening to understand their needs and interests better.
